5 Books I Wish Everyone Would Read

Here are 5 books that have deeply impacted my faith and shaped the way that I follow Jesus.  If you’re looking to grow in your faith, deepen your relationship with Jesus and strengthen your soul for the journey ahead, tackle these great reads and dig in!

The Problem of God, by Mark Clark

This is a fresh take on apologetics—giving a defense of the reasonableness of Christian faith.  It’s written by a young pastor named Mark Clark who speaks with candor, wit, and insight.  I loved the chapters on hell, sex, and hypocrisy.  This book will challenge your thinking on faith, but it is written in a very readable, accessible voice.  It’s the best book I’ve read in the past year.

Soul Keeping, by John Ortberg

This book re-awaken your heart and stir your soul .  Our pastoral team recently went through this together and we found it very helpful in deepening our spiritual life.  It’s filled with great stories and concepts that really make clear the importance of caring for your soul and how exactly to do that.

What’s So Amazing About Grace?, by Philip Yancey

This a a powerful book on grace with insights that cut like a knife.  Yancey is one of my favorite Christian writers, and this book is simply brilliant.  We are all in need of wrapping our minds and heart around the real meaning of grace, and this is the best explanation of grace I’ve ever read.

Devotional Classics, by Richard Foster

This is a fantastic compilation of short passages from some of the most influential writers in church history.  I’ve read through this book devotionally more times than I can remember and always find it inspiring and refreshing.  If you’re looking for something to read alongside your Bible to connect with God, this book is incredible.

Grit: The Power of Passion and Perseverance, by Angela Duckworth

I love this book because it inspires me to keep going.  It’s not written from a Christian perspective, however it is filled with research into what makes some people persevere and others quit—which is a topic that is incredibly relevant to the Christian life.  Spoiler alert: in regard to success, perseverance is WAY more important than gifting or talent.

Hope that you find these books as helpful as I have!
