Position Overview

Title: Early Childhood Coordinator
Reporting Relationship: Children & Youth Pastor
Classification: Non-exempt, 25 hours

This position provides leadership, management and ministry care for the volunteer teams who serve children from age 3 through Kindergarten in DV Kids. It includes oversight for DV Kids Early Childhood ministry at our three weekend services (one Saturday night and two Sunday morning) plus connection with our Wednesday night midweek service. This oversight includes inclusive communication with parents, and the development of leaders in worship, media, puppets and large and small group leadership. The heart of this position is to create a loving and peaceful community-oriented culture in which young children learn of the greatness of God and His value for them, and parents experience support and connection as the primary influences in their child’s walk of faith.

This position also includes administrative assistance for the Children & Youth pastor and the DV Kids staff team, in organizationing projects and events, research and general administrative tasks.

  • Oversee all Early Childhood environments for weekend services and special events.
  • Recruit, screen, train, deploy, and lead Early Childhood volunteer teams.
  • Utilize the system to ensure all volunteers complete the application process, are background checked and trustworthy to work with children.
  • Provide age-specific vision-casting and training for volunteers, including core values, ministry models and goals, curriculum, puppets and worship, and environment.
  • Involve and support parents as the primary faith influence in the lives of children, including consistent parent communication.
  • Assist in creating a culture of ever increasing excellence and safety.
  • Implement Early Childhood curriculum, as a part of an overall plan for children and youth.
  • Support the DV Kids Special Needs ministry.
  • Contribute to the creation of a culture of joy, fun, and energy that permeates all of DV Kids.
  • Implement Early Childhood programming for special events such as camps, summer activities and the All Church Retreat in Palm Springs, CA.
  • Bring organization to ministry systems, projects and events.
  • Purchase ministry supplies using best practices.
  • Manage promotion of DV Kids ministry and events through the website and social media, in collaboration with the Children & Youth Pastor.
  • Team-based additional ministry duties as requested by supervisor.


  • Strong organizational skills and leadership gifts.
  • Love for people, particularly young children.
  • Ability to recruit, build, and lead volunteer teams.
  • Ability to use technology.
  • Excellent relational skills to work well with parents, grandparents, pastoral staff, volunteers, children, including those with special needs.
  • Excellent communication skills.

Education and Experience:

  • 1-3 years leading early childhood ministry desired.
  • 1-3 years  administrative experience desired.
  • 1-3 years leading volunteers and managing people desired.
  • Associate’s degree required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
