Position Overview

Title: Outreach & Compassion Ministries Director
Reporting Relationship: Executive Pastor
Classification: Non-exempt, Full-time

Position Overview:
This position will oversee the current outreach and compassion ministries of the Desert Vineyard. These include (but are not limited to) food ministries, benevolence assistance, and large outreach events like our Single Parent Fair. The goal is for this role to not just maintain current programs, but to grow more programs that will provide practical help for people in need in our city and initiatives that will reach out evangelistically to people who are far from God. The hope is that position would grow into a pastoral position over several years.

  • Profess Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.
  • Commitment to spiritual growth and a healthy lifestyle.
  • Model expectations and standards of staff life at Desert Vineyard.
  • Understanding and embracing of the vision and values of Desert Vineyard (Attendance at Starting Point & Discover Leadership required within one year of hire).




  • Oversee, develop, care for and grow current outreach and compassion ministries.
  • Start new compassion initiatives to meet the practical needs of people in our city (things like ESL & GED classes, etc).
  • Start new outreach initiatives to reach out to people far from God in our community (organize Alpha Course, servant evangelism projects, etc).
  • Recruit, train and release volunteers for various programs and ministries.
  • Lead, team-build, and communicate effectively with volunteer teams.
  • Manage the budget and expense reporting.
  • Create a culture of joyful service and outward focused love for others.




  • Strong organizational skills and leadership gifts.
  • Love for people, particularly people who are in need or are far from God.
  • Ability to recruit, build, and lead volunteer teams.
  • Good relational skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Self-starter—able to work independently.
  • Able to assess existing ministry and lead change where needed.



Education and Experience:

  • 2-3 years leadership experience in church or non-profit ministry desired.
  • Vineyard Institute certificate or equivalent desired.
